New Mexico Centennial Healthy Kids 5-2-1-O Challenge

The 5-2-1-O Challenge, launched by Governor Susana Martinez on September 20, 2012, is a statewide campaign motivating children to change their eating and physical activity behaviors. Work with your child or students to take the 5-2-1-O Challenge. The 5-2-1-O Challenge is based on the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations for children.

Eat 5 or More Fruits and Veggies a Day

Trim TV and Video Game Time to 2 Hours a Day

Move More—Be Active for At Least 1 Hour a Day

Drink Lots of H2O Every Day

Yazzie Bear and Carlita Coyote will encourage children as they work for 21 days to achieve the goals of the Healthy Kids 5-2-1-O Challenge. As a teacher or parent, you can participate, too!

It's hard work, but your children and you can do it! Children’s hard work will be awarded with a prize. Those who succeed in meeting all four challenges for 21 days will win a Healthy Kids NM 5-2-1-0 Challenge Medal, shown on the right.

To participate, your child or students must use the 21 Day Tracker for Kids to record their behaviors each day for 21 consecutive days. Parents are required to sign and date each page.

Instructions for participating in the challenge are in the booklet. Once your child or students have successfully completed the 21-day challenge, please send the completed booklet to us, and your child or students will receive the Healthy Kids New Mexico winner medal!
