About Healthy Kids New Mexico

Healthy Kids New Mexico (HKNM), a project of the New Mexico Department of Health, builds state and local partnerships to create healthy environments and programs to give kids what they need to play well, eat well, learn, and live healthy and full lives.

Although children and their families make the final decisions, many social and environmental factors also influence their choices. During the last 30 years, these influences have changed dramatically, making it far more difficult for children and families today to navigate a healthy diet and active lifestyle. An estimated 40% of premature deaths annually could be prevented through changing environmental conditions, social inequities, and behavioral choices.

Working together with families, schools, communities, and state government, we can nurture healthy eating and active living and reduce childhood obesity.
